Today in History: Nobel Prize winner Wole Soyinka is born
There is only so much that I can say or write about one of the cornerstones of African Literature.
It was for no mean reason that he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986.
The octogenarian has shaped so much about the field that you and I cannot begin to gauge his impact; both in academia and elsewhere.
He is among the few we can point to that manifest the saying the pen is mightier than the sword, having is works exerting influence in Africa and beyond even when he was imprisoned during the Biafra War.
Wole Soyinka, Nigerian author, playwright, poet and essayist was born this day July 13, 1934 in modern day Ogun State.
Happy birthday, Wole Soyinka!
