Today in History: Alexander Hamilton is fatally wounded in a duel
Today in History, Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States was fatally wounded after he was shot by longtime political rival.
Aaron Burr, former Vice President of the US challenged Hamilton to a duel after the former refused to recant alleged disparaging comments about the Burr.
The duel took place at Weehawken, New Jersey.
The episode has been reenacted several times in US popular culture. According various narrations, Hamilton raised his pistol but was out-gunned by Burr who delivered a shot to his right abdomen.
Hamilton, according to reports died 31 hours later after visits from his family.
